Introduction
About to open your Shopify store? That’s a smart move! Shopify gives you a solid, user-friendly space to list products and start selling fast. Although, to turn casual visitors into loyal customers, it is highly recommended to connect a custom domain to your website, like yourstore.com, instead of the default address.
Follow the below steps that show you how to point a domain to your new Shopify site by tweaking a few DNS records.
Steps to Point Your Domain to Shopify
Just work through the instructions below, and your domain will link to Shopify without any disruptions:
Step 1: Add Your Domain to Shopify
- Sign in to your Shopify Admin Panel.
- Head to Settings > Domains.
- Tap Connect existing domain.
- Type your custom domain (example: yourdomain.com) and hit Next.
- Shopify displays the DNS records it expects (note them for future reference).
Step 2: Access Your Domain’s DNS Management
Now you’ll change those records at your domain registrar. Log into your customer panel, find your domain, and look for DNS Management, Zone Editor, or something similar.
If MilesWeb looks after your domain: Log in to the MilesWeb Client Area (mPanel dashboard). From the main menu, head to Domains, then select My Domains. Locate the domain you wish to link, then click Manage Domain. Next, look for DNS Management or the option that says Manage DNS Zone.
Step 3: Configure DNS Records in Your Control Panel
In this area, you’ll either add new records or tweak existing ones so browsers know to load your Shopify store instead of another site. Completing this part correctly is vital; it tells every server on the web where your shop can be found.
Here are the two key records to set up:
Record 1: Link the Root Domain
This entry makes sure that your primary address (for example, yourdomain.com) goes straight to Shopify.
- Record Type: A (Address record) Host/Name: @ (this symbol stands in for the root address.)
- Value/Points To: 23.227.38.65 (the IP Shopify uses)
- TTL (Time To Live): 3600 seconds, or leave the default setting that’s already there.
Record 2: Redirect the www Subdomain
This entry makes sure anyone who types www.yoursite.com gets sent straight to your Shopify store.
- Record Type: CNAME (Canonical Name record)
- Host/Name: www
- Value/Points To: shops.myshopify.com (Shopify’s standard address)
- TTL (Time To Live): Leave it at 3600 seconds or stick with whatever default your panel offers.
Important Note for All Panels: Before adding this record, remove any old A or CNAME entries for @ or www. Otherwise, the two records will be fused together, and your domain won’t load correctly.
If you are using MilesWeb’s mPanel:
After reaching the DNS Management area (as shown in Step 2), look for Add Record or Edit Record. Enter the A record and this CNAME detail, then save each change before moving on.
Step 4: Verify the Domain in Shopify
- Return to Shopify > Domains.
- Click Verify Connection.
- Give Shopify time to see the new setup. It may take 24 to 48 hours.
Example Setup
Here’s an example to point a domain (craftyzone.com) to Shopify.
- Imagine you own a website called craftyzone.com.
- First, log in to MilesWeb and add these DNS records:
- A → @ → 23.227.38.65
- CNAME → www → shops.myshopify.com
- After the changes, that is, DNS setup and propagation are completed across the internet, both www.craftyzone.com and craftyzone.com will lead straight to your Shopify shop.
Connecting your MilesWeb domain to Shopify is fast and simple. With only those two lines modified, your store gains a clean, memorable address that shoppers feel safe using.
Whether you sell handmade gifts or run a larger label enterprise, a personal domain instantly boosts your online reputation.
