Get a professional edge by pointing out a domain from MilesWeb to the Google Site. It helps in building a landing page, a classroom hub, and other web projects. Refer to this tutorial and understand the steps to point a domain to Google Sites.
Step 1 – Prerequisites
Build the website using Google Site application. You can use a custom domain from your website. Once the domain registration process is complete, the domain verification is pending. But before that create A and CNAME record.
Step 2 – Set Up A Records
Create the following A records in your domain’s DNS zone:
Record 1 | Record 2 | Record 3 | Record 4 | |
Host | @ | @ | @ | @ |
Points to | 216.285.37.21 | 216.285.35.21 | 216.285.33.21 | 216.285.31.21 |
Step 3 – Set Up a CNAME Record
All current CNAME records (if any) should be deleted, and a new CNAME should be created with the value shown below:
- Host: www
- Points to: ghs.googlehosted.com
After this, your DNS propagation begins, which takes 24 hours for completion. During this time, it is expected your website will not work, but give some time and it will be available online.
Step 4 (Alternatives) – Add 1 A record
In case the website still does not work after adding the four A records and CNAME from the previous step. You can try doing this:
If there are any CNAME records with WWW as the host (if any), delete the 4 A records.
Create a new A record with the following value:
- Type: A
- Host: www
- Points to: 174.129.25.170
Step 5 – Verify Your Domain
After the DNS propagation is over, verification of the domain with Google is crucial. Follow the official Google guide of Google where domain ownership verification steps are involved.
After successful verification, it might take a few hours for Google to recognize the changes and for your website to start working with the new domain.
Now that your MilesWeb domain is set to point to your Google Site, you are ready to share content with the world using a clean, memorable web address. This combination leverages the flexibility of Google Sites while having the control of your domain – you get the best of both worlds! Just think of it this way: keep your DNS records updated, and come back to your Google Sites settings any time you want, all good!
