How to Manage MX Records?

Management of MX (Mail Exchange) records is critical when you want to route the email messages to the main server. The DNS zone editor gives you the authority to manage your DND records. 

NOTE: When your domain is directed to a different provider, they take control of your complete DNS zone management.

Essential Values to Use

Name (Host)

Set @ as the host when adding MX records. For subdomains, you should use the name of the subdomain. For subdomains like support.domain.tld, use support.

Mail Server (Directs to)

It indicates the mail server address used for managing emails for your domain. Your email service provider will provide the specific information for the mail server. For example, for MilesWeb Email, it’s:

  • mx1.milesweb.com
  • mx2.milesweb.com

Priority Level

The priority setting has different levels that indicate the order in which one can use the mail server. A lower number indicates higher priority. For instance:

  • mx1.milesweb.com: priority 5
  • mx2.milesweb.com: priority 10

TTL 

The TTL (Time to Live) is a specific time interval during which other systems can store the MX record data. 

Once you have made modifications for MX records, please allow up to 24 hours for complete DNS propagation across the DNS network.

How to Change MX Records?

If you want to  change the MX records using the DNS Zone Editor, perform the following:

Update a Record: 

Find the desired MX record and click on the edit option to change the mail server or change its priority.

Delete a Record: 

Select the MX record you want to delete and click on delete to erase it permanently.
