{"id":7077,"date":"2020-01-21T10:05:52","date_gmt":"2020-01-21T10:05:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.milesweb.co.uk\/hosting-faqs\/?p=7077"},"modified":"2020-01-21T10:08:07","modified_gmt":"2020-01-21T10:08:07","slug":"how-to-resolve-mysql-passwords-do-not-work-after-upgrade-error","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.milesweb.co.uk\/hosting-faqs\/how-to-resolve-mysql-passwords-do-not-work-after-upgrade-error\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Resolve \u201cMySQL passwords do not work after upgrade\u201d Error?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this article, you will learn to resolve the problem that occurs after a server is upgraded to MySQL 5.6.5 or later.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In case you don\u2019t know which MySQL version is installed on your server, follow these steps:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to cPanel.<\/li>\n<li>Go to the right sidebar of the cPanel home screen, under General Information, click Server Information.<\/li>\n<li>Under Server Information, locate the MySQL Version row to check the MySQL version installed on the server.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Problem<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When accessing a database on the server running MySQL 5.6.5 or later, the login fails even if you have been using the correct username and password.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, while running WordPress on your site, you see the below error message:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true\">Error establishing a database connection<\/pre>\n<p>Also with other web applications, similar messages may get displayed about database connection errors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cause<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The cause of this issue is the use of a new hashtag method for user passwords by MySQL 5.6.5. The further MySQL versions don\u2019t support the hash method, used in older versions of MySQL to store passwords and so the logins fail.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Resolution<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For resolving this issue, you should delete and recreate the database user. While doing this, the new hash method is used by MySQL to store the password, and the database user can log in again.<\/p>\n<p>To do this, follow the below steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to your cPanel account.<\/li>\n<li>Go to the <strong>Databases<\/strong> section of the cPanel home screen and click on <strong>MySQL\u00ae Databases<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8920\" src=\"https:\/\/www.milesweb.co.uk\/hosting-faqs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/cpanel-database-min-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"915\" height=\"231\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Then locate the database user that you want to recreate under <strong>Current Users<\/strong> and click <strong>Delete<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-8921\" src=\"https:\/\/www.milesweb.co.uk\/hosting-faqs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/delete-user-min-1024x132.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"132\" \/><\/li>\n<li>In order to confirm the deletion, click <strong>Delete User<\/strong> and then click on <strong>Go Back<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8922\" src=\"https:\/\/www.milesweb.co.uk\/hosting-faqs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/goback-min.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"737\" height=\"280\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Under <strong>Add New User<\/strong>, in the <strong>Username<\/strong> text box, type the username of the user you deleted just now.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8923\" src=\"https:\/\/www.milesweb.co.uk\/hosting-faqs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/add-new-user-min.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"865\" height=\"437\" \/><\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Password<\/strong> text box, type the user password.<br \/>\n<strong>Note:<\/strong> There is no need to create a new password for the user. The previous password can be used, if you want to keep the password unchanged. For finding the current password, check your application&#8217;s configuration files.
