CNAME records are used to map one domain name to another.<\/p>\n<p>For example, suppose you have both <strong>example.com<\/strong> and <strong>www.example.com<\/strong> that point to the same application and are hosted by the same server. Then to avoid the hassle maintaining two different records, it\u2019s common to create:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An <strong>A record<\/strong> for <strong>example.com<\/strong> pointing to the server IP address.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>CNAME<\/strong> <strong>record<\/strong> for <strong>www.example.com<\/strong> pointing to <strong>example.com.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This helps the <strong>example.com<\/strong> to point to the<strong> server IP address<\/strong> and <strong>www.example.com<\/strong> to point to the address via <strong>example.com<\/strong>.
