While hosting on a cPanel server, you will get a ready kernel with the control panel. However, you can replace the hardened cPanel-provided kernel with any standard third-party kernel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warning<\/strong>: cPanel now deprecates the hardened kernel from cPanel & WHM version 68. They no longer provide updates for this kernel. It is why we strongly recommend that you enable symlink protection options once you remove the hardened kernel.<\/p>

We also suggest you plan downtime for this process as it needs a server reboot.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

To Replace the Hardened Kernel of cPanel with a Standard Kernel<\/h2>\n

We start by removing the cPanel-provided hardened kernel followed by the kernel installation.<\/p>\n

1. Log in to your server with SSH<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

2. Run this command:<\/p>\n

rm \/etc\/yum.repos.d\/cPkernel.repo<\/pre>\n\n\n
The system will remove the cPkernel<\/strong> or cPanel kernel from the server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
3. Enter and run this command immediately:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
yum list --showduplicates kernel<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
A list of available kernels will appear that you can install on the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
4. To install a kernel, please run the command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
yum install KERNELNAME <\/pre>\n\n\n\n
Do not forget to replace the KERNELNAME<\/strong> with the kernel version you want to install. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
We recommend you run: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
yum install kernel-2.6.32 <\/pre>\n\n\n\n
This command will install the latest kernel version currently available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
5. Reboot your server once the installation is complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
